History

Frank T. Vescio, second oldest son of Theresa and Charles Vescio first generation Italian immigrants{ she from Naples and he from Calbria, Italy} founded Vescio’s Restaurant in 1956. Frank got his beginnings at Vescio’s Shoreham Market on Central Ave. in Minneapolis where amongst other grocery items, he started selling homemade pizzas and pasta. His love of family, people and delicious food was the perfect combination to launch him from grocer to restaurateur.

The first restaurant was a small storefront where Frank worked side- by-side with his mom who was affectionately known as Liz to family and friends. The two of them developed the family recipes we all enjoy still today.  Some of us are lucky enough to have  fond memories as little ones seeing Frank and Liz in the kitchen hand rolling meatballs and pinching the dough to make gnocchi while the signature red meat sauce simmered on the stove.

This original Dinkytown location is the site of the flagship restaurant, aptly named Vescio’s Originale, and is now a favorite for surrounding University of Minnesota students, staff, locals and visitors. Frank C. and his son Tony Vescio run the restaurant  following in their Dad and Grandfather’s footsteps.

In 1983, second son Fred Vescio, along with his mother Charlotte Vescio expanded the restaurant tradition with the opening of the second location in St. Louis Park, Vescio’s Cucina, located in the heart of the trendy Lake Calhoun area. Fred and his youngest son Jon are the hands on operators of Vescio’s Cucina, as well as the newly launched Vescio’s Trattoria in the Minneapolis skyway at 6th and Marquette catering to the business lunch crowd Monday through Friday.

The wholeVescio family participates in the annual tradition of Vescio’s at the Fair. The Minnesota State Fair is the largest state fair in the country. Located right across from the famous Grandstand, Vescio’s offers fair goers hot pizza by the slice and bucket of rigs, Italian egg roll, huge servings of garlic bread and much more. Vescio’s has been a favorite destination for fair goers for over 30 years.

From its inception Vescio’s has been dedicated to providing its delicious homemade,  hand prepared Italian cuisine and creating memorable experiences with  food. Today the menu is reflective of our modern busy lifestyle without having lost the ingredients and passion which has made Vescio’s famous.
